Grand Junction, Colo. – Spring took a colder turn across western Colorado Wednesday, with snow falling in the high country and gusty winds sweeping through mountain valleys.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, light snow accumulation is likely above 9,000 feet this afternoon, while scattered thunderstorms may develop throughout the region. Gusts of 25 to 35 mph are expected in lower elevations, with even stronger winds in higher terrain.

In areas like Aspen, Telluride, and Vail, slick conditions may develop on mountain passes, especially through the evening. Along I-70 and U.S. 550, visibility could be briefly reduced in heavier showers. Grand Junction, Montrose, and Rifle will stay breezy and cooler, with high temperatures 15 to 20 degrees lower than Tuesday.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and avoid travel in high-profile vehicles on exposed roads. Snow lovers heading to the slopes should be cautious of slick roadways and rapidly changing weather.

A warming trend begins Thursday, with highs climbing above normal by Saturday. Showers and storms may continue into the weekend before a larger system arrives late Sunday, potentially bringing widespread rain early next week.
