Denver, CO – The I-25 corridor area is under a severe weather alert for Wednesday, with the National Weather Service (NWS) predicting damaging winds, large hail, and the potential for flash flooding. Residents from Denver to Cheyenne are advised to stay weather-aware as storms are expected to intensify throughout the day.
According to the NWS Denver/Boulder office, the greatest threat will be east of the I-25 corridor, where hail could reach up to 1.5 inches in diameter, and wind gusts may exceed 60 mph. These severe conditions, combined with heavy rainfall, heighten the risk of flash flooding, particularly in burn scar areas and across the plains.
The storm system is expected to develop in the afternoon, with the highest risk occurring from late afternoon into the evening. Those in affected areas are encouraged to secure outdoor objects, avoid driving through flooded roads, and seek shelter indoors when the storms hit. “When thunder roars, go indoors!” the NWS emphasized in its advisory.
Temperatures in Denver are expected to reach 92°F on Wednesday, before cooling slightly to 85°F on Thursday. The stormy weather is forecasted to ease by Thursday morning, giving way to partly cloudy skies and milder conditions through the rest of the week.
