Pueblo, Colorado – Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across eastern Colorado on Wednesday afternoon, with a heightened risk for large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes through 8 p.m. The heaviest impacts are anticipated from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. MDT. Residents in the southeastern plains, especially east of the I-25 corridor, should be prepared for dangerous weather conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, the storms could produce hail up to 1.75 inches in diameter and wind gusts as high as 65 mph. The greatest risk for tornadoes is in areas along the Kansas border. These severe weather events will primarily affect counties such as Las Animas, Huerfano, and Pueblo, where storm cells are expected to develop and move across the plains.

Motorists should be cautious on roads, particularly around mid-afternoon, as gusty winds and large hail could make travel hazardous. The storms are expected to intensify through the afternoon, and residents should have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, such as through NOAA Weather Radio or weather apps.

As the spring severe weather season kicks off, Coloradoans are reminded to monitor updates closely. While the threat diminishes after 8 p.m. tonight, it’s important to stay alert as the storm system progresses eastward.
