Denver, Colorado – Severe thunderstorms could slam Colorado’s eastern counties Saturday between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m., packing winds over 60 mph and quarter-size hail. The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for this time frame, covering major population centers from Denver to Sterling, and communities from Adams and Arapahoe east to Sedgwick and Yuma.

According to the Storm Prediction Center, the watch includes 20 counties, with the greatest risk for damaging winds, large hail, and dangerous lightning along I-70 and U.S. Highway 385. Emergency managers warn of possible power outages and downed tree limbs, especially in Weld, Lincoln, and Kit Carson counties. Drivers should avoid unnecessary travel, stay alert for rapidly changing conditions, and be ready to move indoors as storms develop.

Scattered storms may move quickly, impacting evening plans and outdoor events from Denver through the High Plains. Residents are urged to charge mobile devices, secure loose outdoor items, and monitor weather updates in case additional warnings are issued.

Storm risks are expected to decrease after 9 p.m., but more alerts could follow if conditions worsen. Stay tuned for updates as severe weather continues across Colorado’s eastern half.
