Pueblo, CO – Drivers and residents in Pueblo and across southern Colorado face flash flooding risks through Thursday evening as monsoon moisture continues fueling powerful afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Heavy rainfall, gusty outflow winds reaching up to 50 mph, and small hail are likely, with the greatest risk focused on higher terrain and already saturated areas.

According to the National Weather Service Pueblo, slow-moving storms increase the chance of flash flooding, especially where soils remain waterlogged from previous rain. Residents near creeks, streams, and areas with poor drainage should remain alert through Thursday night.

Specific concern areas include the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Wet Mountains, and the higher elevations of Fremont and Custer counties. Motorists on roadways such as Highway 50, I-25, and secondary mountain roads should be prepared for sudden, reduced visibility and standing water.

The weather service advises residents to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy storms, closely monitor local weather alerts, and remain cautious of rapidly changing road conditions. Those living in flood-prone areas should also ensure emergency kits and evacuation plans are ready.

Flash flood warnings and storm alerts could be issued as conditions evolve, continuing into Thursday evening. Stay informed with local forecasts for updates.
