Pueblo, Colo. – Residents across southern and eastern Colorado are bracing for severe thunderstorms this evening, with a watch in effect until 9 p.m. Sunday. The National Weather Service warns storms may bring damaging winds, large hail, and dangerous lightning across the region.

According to the Storm Prediction Center, the watch includes Pueblo, El Paso, Otero, and Prowers counties, stretching northeast through Cheyenne and Kit Carson. Storm cells are expected to intensify late this afternoon, tracking east toward the Kansas border.

Highway travel could be impacted along I-25 from Colorado Springs to Pueblo and across U.S. 50 through La Junta and Lamar. Officials urge drivers to be alert for sudden downpours reducing visibility and the potential for hail-covered roads. Outdoor events across the Arkansas Valley should be postponed or moved indoors until storms pass.

Power outages are possible if strong wind gusts topple tree limbs or power lines. Residents are encouraged to charge devices and secure outdoor items. Those in mobile homes or temporary shelters should have a backup safety plan in case warnings are issued.

The severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 9 p.m., with additional updates possible if storms strengthen or shift eastward into the overnight hours.
