Pueblo, CO – Spring fire weather is sweeping into southern Colorado this Sunday, with high winds and bone-dry conditions creating dangerous fire potential across Pueblo and Colorado Springs.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a Fire Weather Watch is in effect from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. MDT Sunday, with gusts reaching up to 35 mph and humidity dropping as low as 6%. Areas affected include southern El Paso and Pueblo counties, particularly near I-25 where dry grasses and wind-prone areas increase the risk of rapidly spreading fires.
Residents are urged to avoid any outdoor burning or spark-producing equipment. The Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 9 p.m. Saturday, transitioning to the Fire Weather Watch on Sunday, which may escalate if conditions worsen. Officials warn that fires could ignite and spread rapidly, especially in open fields and near roadsides.
