Alamosa, CO – Residents across the San Luis Valley should prepare for another round of chilly overnight weather, with frost expected early Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a Frost Advisory remains in effect from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, for much of the San Luis Valley, including the communities of Alamosa, Del Norte, Monte Vista, San Luis, and La Jara.

Forecasters say temperatures are likely to dip between 32 and 35 degrees, with isolated spots dropping as low as 30 degrees. These conditions are expected to lead to widespread frost across the valley floor.

The NWS warns that frost could damage or kill sensitive outdoor plants if left uncovered. Gardeners, farmers, and homeowners are advised to protect vegetation and consider bringing potted plants indoors ahead of the freeze.

Wednesday morning’s frost advisory has already expired, but meteorologists stress that conditions will return overnight into Thursday morning, marking one of the season’s first widespread cold snaps.

The San Luis Valley, sitting at more than 7,500 feet in elevation, often sees early-season frost events before other parts of Colorado. With the growing season still active, agricultural producers may see impacts if precautions are not taken.

This advisory covers the northern, central, and southern San Luis Valley, including Alamosa County, Costilla County, and Rio Grande County.
