Denver, CO – A Red Flag Warning is in effect for portions of the Colorado plains from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday due to gusty winds, low humidity, and dry conditions that significantly increase wildfire risk.

According to the National Weather Service in Denver/Boulder, wind gusts between 25-40 mph are expected across the plains, while the eastern slopes of the Front Range Mountains could experience westerly winds reaching 50-75 mph at higher elevations. Relative humidity levels are projected to drop as low as 9-15%, creating critical fire weather conditions.

Officials are urging residents to avoid any outdoor activities that could create sparks, such as grilling, campfires, or discarding cigarettes improperly. The combination of strong winds and dry air could cause fires to spread rapidly if ignited.

Temperatures in affected areas are forecasted to be unseasonably warm, with highs ranging from the mid-50s to the upper 60s. The warning primarily impacts areas including Denver, Fort Collins, Greeley, and the eastern plains, where fire danger remains high throughout the afternoon and evening.

Residents are advised to stay informed of local fire restrictions and have an emergency plan in place. Any fires that ignite could spread quickly and be difficult to control under current conditions.
