Pueblo, CO – A Red Flag Warning has been issued for parts of Colorado’s San Luis Valley and Huerfano County due to dangerous fire conditions. The warning is set to take effect from noon to 7 PM MDT on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
According to the National Weather Service, the affected areas include Alamosa, Del Norte, Fort Garland, Saguache, and Walsenburg. Gusty northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph are expected, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph. These winds, combined with low relative humidity levels as low as 12 percent, create an environment where fires can ignite and spread rapidly.
The warning comes as a result of critical fire weather conditions, including the combination of high winds, dry air, and warm temperatures, which can significantly increase fire behavior. Firefighters and residents are urged to remain vigilant and take precautions to prevent wildfires.
This warning replaces the previously issued Fire Weather Watch, signaling that conditions have reached a level of concern. Individuals in the affected regions are advised to avoid outdoor burning and to exercise extreme caution.
