Grand Junction, CO – A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Grand Junction and surrounding areas today, with gusty winds and low humidity creating hazardous fire conditions. The warning, which runs from noon until 8 p.m. MDT, covers Fire Weather Zones 203 and 205, including the Lower Colorado River and Colorado River Headwaters regions.

According to the National Weather Service, winds will gust up to 45 mph, with sustained speeds of 20 to 30 mph. Combined with relative humidity levels dropping as low as 7 to 12 percent, these conditions are ideal for wildfires to ignite and spread rapidly. Local authorities urge extreme caution with any outdoor burning today.

Travelers and residents are advised to avoid activities that could start fires and to be aware of blowing dust, which may reduce visibility. The fire risk is particularly high below 7,000 feet in the affected areas, including parts of Grand Junction.

The forecast for tonight will bring a slight drop in temperatures, with increasing clouds and a low of 42°F. On Monday, conditions will improve, with a shift toward a more seasonable, showery weather pattern, offering some relief to the fire threat.

For now, the Red Flag Warning remains in effect through this evening, with fire weather conditions expected to remain critical in these areas.
