Pueblo, CO – A heightened fire risk is gripping Fremont County and the southern I-25 corridor today, as the National Weather Service issues another Red Flag Warning lasting through Wednesday afternoon.
According to the US National Weather Service in Pueblo, the region will experience relative humidity as low as 6 percent and wind gusts reaching up to 40 mph. These conditions are expected to produce critical fire weather, with any new ignitions likely to spread rapidly.
The warning, effective from Tuesday morning through late Wednesday, covers areas including Cañon City and stretches southward along the I-25 corridor. Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning, welding, or using machinery that could spark in dry grass or brush.
April is typically the start of fire season in southern Colorado, and this alert underscores the region’s vulnerability when humidity drops into the single digits. The National Weather Service warns that current weather patterns will support “extreme fire behavior” if any wildfires are ignited.
Residents are advised to stay alert for updated forecasts and follow local emergency guidelines. Taking precautions such as securing trailer chains and avoiding campfires is critical to reducing the risk of wildfires under these conditions.
