Grand Junction, Colo. – Critical fire weather conditions will grip western Colorado through 8 p.m. Tuesday as gusty winds and low humidity spark wildfire concerns across Mesa County and surrounding areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect for Fire Weather Zones 203 and 205—covering areas below 8,000 feet including the Colorado River Headwaters. Southwest winds of 10 to 20 mph, with gusts reaching 35 mph, combined with humidity levels as low as 10 percent, create the perfect recipe for fast-moving fires.
Communities near Grand Junction, De Beque, and the Lower Colorado River Basin are at heightened risk. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. Any fire that starts could quickly get out of control due to dry fuels and unstable atmospheric conditions.
Temperatures will reach 93°F Tuesday with only slight relief overnight. By Friday, highs could top 98°F, further drying vegetation and worsening the threat. Thunderstorms are possible Wednesday afternoon but may bring more lightning than rain.
Residents are urged to avoid open flames, secure trailer chains, and monitor updates from emergency management.
Warnings remain in effect until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Additional alerts may follow with continued dry, windy weather.
