Pueblo, CO – The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for multiple counties in southern Colorado, including Pueblo, El Paso, and Las Animas, from noon to 9 p.m. MDT on Thursday due to gusty winds and low humidity.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, wind speeds are expected to range from 20 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph in mountainous areas and 40 mph in lower elevations. Relative humidity levels could drop as low as 8%, creating conditions that allow fires to ignite and spread rapidly.

The affected areas include Fremont, Pueblo, Huerfano, Baca, Otero, Kiowa, Crowley, and Bent counties, among others. Residents are urged to avoid any outdoor burning, as fires will be difficult to control under these conditions.

Officials warn that dry vegetation combined with strong winds and warm temperatures significantly increases wildfire risks. Residents should take precautions by securing outdoor items, avoiding activities that generate sparks, and staying informed through local emergency alerts.

A Red Flag Warning indicates critical fire weather conditions. Authorities advise remaining vigilant and ready to act should a wildfire break out in the region.
