Pueblo, CO – Southeast Colorado residents should brace for rapidly changing weather this weekend as a frost advisory is in effect until 8 a.m. Saturday, potentially impacting outdoor plants in Kiowa, El Paso, Pueblo, Crowley, and Otero counties. Residents are urged to protect sensitive vegetation against temperatures dipping as low as 33 degrees overnight.
According to the National Weather Service, this frost threat will be followed by a warm-up, with highs reaching up to 84 degrees in the Plains by Monday. The weekend forecast anticipates sunny and clear skies, providing a temporary respite before fire weather conditions emerge. Temperatures are expected to peak at 71 degrees on Saturday and between 74 and 81 degrees on Sunday. However, the high winds forecast for Monday may escalate fire risks across the eastern Plains, especially in areas along the Arkansas River Valley and the I-25 corridor.
Mountain regions can expect cooler temperatures, staying between 47 and 67 degrees with lows in the 30s overnight. Despite sunny days, travelers should prepare for colder night-time conditions in these areas, particularly if venturing near the Rampart Range or the Southern Rockies.
The dry, unseasonably warm conditions forecasted for early next week could increase the potential for fires, with elevated risks on Monday as west-to-southwest winds intensify. Residents are encouraged to avoid open flames and take precautions in high-risk areas.
Looking into the week, temperatures are projected to remain above seasonal averages. A slight chance of rain is expected Tuesday evening, with up to 30% likelihood of showers, especially around the eastern slopes, providing some relief from the dry spell.
Southeast Colorado residents should continue monitoring updates, especially if fire weather warnings are issued for Monday, as winds and temperatures could further elevate wildfire risks.
