Denver, Colo. – Air quality across Colorado’s Front Range is expected to deteriorate Tuesday afternoon, with pollution levels climbing into the “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” category in parts of the Denver metro area, including Golden.

According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, an Ozone Action Day Alert remains in effect until 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 1. While Monday’s air remains mostly in the Good to Moderate range, concentrations are projected to spike by late Tuesday, especially in western Denver, Boulder, and Jefferson counties.

Residents in Larimer, Weld, Douglas, and Arapahoe counties are also under the alert. Sensitive groups—including children, the elderly, and people with asthma or lung conditions—should avoid prolonged outdoor activity, particularly during the hottest part of the day. Officials recommend reducing vehicle use and avoiding gasoline-powered equipment to help cut ozone levels.

Golden, Broomfield, and other foothill-adjacent areas are likely to experience the highest pollution levels. This alert aligns with ongoing efforts to curb Colorado’s summer ozone peaks, which worsen under strong sun and stagnant air.

Air quality updates are posted at colorado.gov/airquality. The alert may be extended if high ozone levels persist.
