Pueblo, CO – The National Weather Service in Pueblo has extended multiple Winter Weather Advisories for southern Colorado’s high mountain ranges, warning of heavy snow and strong winds that will create dangerous travel conditions through early Monday morning.
The advisories cover the Eastern San Juan Mountains, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and the Western Mosquito and Eastern Sawatch Ranges, including high-elevation routes such as Wolf Creek Pass, Cumbres Pass, and Monarch Pass.
Forecasters expect snow accumulations between 5 and 12 inches, with the heaviest totals likely in the Eastern San Juans. Winds could gust up to 45 mph, producing areas of blowing and drifting snow and reduced visibility across higher peaks and passes.
Travel will be very difficult along mountain routes, particularly U.S. Highway 160 near Wolf Creek Pass and Colorado Highway 17 near Cumbres Pass.
Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary mountain travel, and if driving is essential, to carry chains, emergency supplies, and check road conditions through COtrip.org or by dialing 511.
The advisories remain in effect from Sunday afternoon through 5 a.m. Monday across the affected mountain regions.
