Goodland, KS – Drivers along the Colorado–Kansas border are waking up to dense fog this morning as the National Weather Service (NWS) issues an urgent Dense Fog Advisory through 10 a.m. MDT / 11 a.m. CDT Thursday. Visibility in the region has dropped to a quarter mile or less, creating hazardous travel conditions.

According to the NWS offices in Goodland, KS, and Denver, CO, the advisory affects communities across Yuma, Kit Carson, Sedgwick, Phillips, Cheyenne, Rawlins, Sherman, Thomas, Dundy, and Hitchcock counties. Cities under the alert include Goodland, Burlington, Holyoke, Wray, Atwood, and Benkelman.

The fog is expected to persist through the mid-morning hours, gradually lifting as temperatures rise. Motorists traveling along Interstate 70, Highway 34, Highway 36, Highway 27, and Highway 385 are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and maintain extra following distance.

Visibility is especially limited in low-lying areas and near open fields, where early commuters may encounter near-zero conditions. Officials recommend delaying travel when possible until the fog dissipates late this morning.
