Pueblo, CO – A high wind warning remains in effect for parts of Colorado, with damaging gusts expected to impact several counties through Friday evening. Strong winds may cause power outages and hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, wind speeds of 30 to 50 mph are expected, with gusts reaching up to 85 mph in the Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains and parts of Huerfano and Las Animas Counties, including Walsenburg and Trinidad. The warning for these areas is set to expire at 3 p.m. Friday.
Meanwhile, eastern portions of the state, including Kiowa, Bent, Prowers, Baca, and Eastern Las Animas Counties, will experience northwest winds between 35 and 45 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph. The warning for these regions remains in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.
Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects and remain indoors, particularly in lower levels of buildings, to avoid falling debris. High-profile vehicles may experience difficulty on highways, and those traveling should exercise extreme caution.
Power outages are possible due to fallen trees and power lines. The National Weather Service recommends monitoring updates and preparing for potential disruptions.
