Pueblo, Colorado – Temperatures across southern and eastern Colorado are expected to soar past 100°F for a second straight day, prompting an extended heat advisory through 9 p.m. Saturday for several counties including Pueblo, El Paso, Fremont, Otero, and Kiowa.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, Friday’s highs will range from 97°F to 106°F depending on elevation and location, with a repeat expected Saturday. Cities such as Pueblo, La Junta, Lamar, and Canon City are likely to see prolonged afternoon heat that could pose a serious health risk.
Residents in Colorado Springs and Black Forest can expect temperatures to flirt with 100°F, while low-elevation areas like Bent and Prowers Counties could exceed 105°F. Those without access to air conditioning are urged to stay indoors, hydrate frequently, and avoid strenuous activity between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Local agencies advise checking on older adults, young children, and outdoor workers. Cooling centers in Pueblo and La Junta will remain open through Saturday evening. Pets should also be kept cool and off hot pavement.
The heat advisory remains in effect through 9 p.m. Saturday, with potential for additional warnings if the heatwave extends into Sunday.
