Pueblo, CO – Dangerous heat is settling across southern Colorado, with triple-digit highs threatening Pueblo, Colorado Springs, Canon City, and much of the southeast through Friday. Heat advisories from the National Weather Service warn that temperatures will spike between 95 and 107 degrees, peaking between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. both Thursday and Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, advisories cover El Paso, Pueblo, Fremont, Otero, Crowley, Bent, Prowers, and Baca counties, including cities like Lamar, Las Animas, La Junta, Springfield, Black Forest, and Penrose. Residents can expect the most intense heat in Lamar, Las Animas, La Junta, Springfield, and Baca County, where highs could push past 105° on Thursday. In Pueblo, Colorado Springs, and Canon City, temperatures are forecast to hold near or just above 100°, with little relief overnight.

The heat is expected to impact roads, utilities, and outdoor activities, especially for those without access to air conditioning. Officials urge everyone to avoid strenuous activity during peak hours, check on elderly neighbors, never leave children or pets in cars, and stay hydrated. Power grids and cooling centers may be strained as demand rises.

The worst of the heat is expected through Friday evening, but additional advisories may follow if the pattern persists. Updates will be issued as needed.
