Littleton, CO – A convicted sex offender who had been on the run since 2017 has been captured in Mexico and returned to Colorado to face justice.

According to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, 38-year-old David Anthony Jaramillo was apprehended in León, Mexico, on August 23, 2025. His capture followed a three-month investigation led by the FBI Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force, with support from the sheriff’s office and Mexican law enforcement.

Jaramillo pled guilty in June 2017 to sexual exploitation of a child, a Class 3 felony, but failed to appear for sentencing in Arapahoe County District Court two months later. Authorities said he had likely been living in Mexico since 2022.

Investigators said the case began in 2016, when Jaramillo contacted what he believed was a teenage girl on a social media site. The “girl” was an undercover Denver police officer. When Jaramillo arranged to meet in Aurora, he was arrested without incident.

In addition to the Arapahoe conviction, Jaramillo also has active warrants in Jefferson and Weld counties for alleged child prostitution, menacing, assault, and child abuse.

After his arrest in Mexico, Jaramillo was taken to Harris County, Texas, before being extradited to Colorado on September 8. He is now in custody at the Arapahoe County Detention Facility.

Sheriff Tyler Brown praised the coordinated effort, saying it “shows that no matter how long you run, you can’t hide forever.”

Jaramillo awaits sentencing in Arapahoe County, along with pending cases in Jefferson and Weld counties.
