Pueblo, Colorado – Fourth of July celebrations across southern Colorado will heat up fast as triple-digit temperatures loom over the plains and breezy winds raise fire danger concerns by sunset Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, dry and mostly fair conditions are expected through the holiday weekend, with isolated late-day showers or thunderstorms possible. Highs will soar near or above 95°F in La Junta, Lamar, Pueblo, and Springfield on both July 4 and 5. Lamar could hit 97°F on Friday—among the hottest in the state.
Wind gusts up to 21 mph are expected Thursday evening in areas like Alamosa and Del Norte, especially around sunset. This could create brief visibility issues for drivers and elevate wildfire concerns. While rain chances are low, scattered 10–15% precipitation probabilities appear after 6 p.m. for places including Eads, Lamar, Springfield, and Leadville.
Cooler mountain towns like Leadville and Woodland Park will stay milder, peaking in the 60s and 70s, offering a break from the heat.
Conditions should ease slightly by Sunday, but dry, hot weather will remain dominant. More updates are likely as July storms develop late each afternoon.
