Denver, Colorado – Downslope winds will kick up gusty conditions Thursday between the Continental Divide and I-25, with scattered showers and snow returning to Colorado’s high country.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, wind gusts will affect the mountains, foothills, and at times the urban corridor. Showers and a few thunderstorms are expected throughout the day in the mountains, with snow levels peaking around 9,000 feet by afternoon—lower earlier in the day.

Cities like Nederland, Estes Park, and Georgetown could see slick conditions on mountain roads, while US 285 and I-70 may see brief visibility drops in snow or rain bursts. The urban corridor—including Boulder, Denver, and Fort Collins—will likely remain mostly dry, with only a 20% chance of precipitation due to the drying effect of downslope winds.

Drivers in higher elevations should use caution on slick roads, especially early Thursday. Those in the plains can expect breezy but largely dry weather, with mild highs in the upper 60s and 70s.

The NWS says additional updates may follow if storm activity intensifies in mountain zones.
