Sterling, Co – Flash flooding could hit eastern Colorado overnight as heavy rain threatens roads, streams, and low-lying neighborhoods from Fort Morgan to Julesburg.

According to the National Weather Service in Denver, a Flood Watch is in effect from 6 p.m. Friday through early Saturday morning for Logan, Morgan, Weld, Washington, Sedgwick, and Phillips counties. Officials warn that excessive rainfall could cause rapid rises in creeks and rivers, along with street flooding in towns like Sterling, Holyoke, and Akron.

High-risk zones include rural highways and small communities along the South Platte River, where runoff could quickly overwhelm drainage systems. Residents in flood-prone areas should be prepared to move to higher ground if warnings are issued.

Drivers are urged to avoid water-covered roads, especially at night when visibility drops. Emergency managers recommend charging cell phones, preparing go-bags, and checking in with vulnerable neighbors.

More alerts could follow if storms persist into the weekend. Flood Watch remains active until 6 a.m. Saturday. Stay tuned to local alerts and be ready to act quickly if conditions worsen.
