MINERAL COUNTY, CO – Heavy rain continues to soak western Colorado, prompting a Flood Warning for Mineral County through Wednesday evening. Roads and low-lying areas along Highway 160 could see rising water levels as saturated soil struggles to absorb ongoing rainfall.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, Doppler radar detected repeated rounds of thunderstorms early Tuesday over the same region already drenched by earlier storms. Flooding is either ongoing or imminent across the western portions of Mineral County, with streams and creeks likely to rise again as new storms move in.

Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads, where most flood-related deaths occur. Even shallow water can sweep vehicles off the roadway. Local authorities warn that travel between South Fork and Creede could become hazardous as runoff increases.

Rain is expected to taper by midweek, though saturated conditions could prolong minor flooding into Thursday morning. Residents should monitor updates from the National Weather Service and local emergency management for changing conditions.

Warnings remain in effect through 6 p.m. Wednesday.
