Denver, CO – Strong winds and dry conditions have prompted a Fire Weather Watch for most of North Central Colorado through Saturday evening. Wind gusts could reach up to 45 mph, increasing the risk of wildfires across the region, especially near the I-70 corridor.

The National Weather Service in Denver issued the Fire Weather Watch, warning that the low humidity and strong winds will create ideal conditions for rapid fire spread. Residents are advised to avoid outdoor burning and refrain from activities that could generate sparks, such as grilling or using power tools. According to the NWS, these conditions are expected to persist through Saturday evening, with wind gusts as strong as 45 mph in the Denver area and surrounding counties.

Starting today, gusty north winds will move through the plains and gradually subside by the afternoon. However, the risk remains critical on Saturday when winds will increase again in the afternoon, bringing heightened danger to areas west of Denver, including Larimer, Boulder, and Adams Counties.

Looking ahead, dry and sunny conditions will dominate the forecast into early next week. Sunday will see highs around 81°F, with light winds and clearer skies. Monday through Wednesday will remain sunny, with temperatures hovering in the low 80s, offering a brief respite from the gusty conditions expected earlier in the weekend.
