Pueblo, CO – A Red Flag Warning has been issued for much of southern and southeastern Colorado from noon to 9 p.m. MDT on Thursday, as critical fire weather conditions are expected to develop.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, strong southwest winds of 30-45 mph and relative humidity dropping to 8-12% will create dangerous fire conditions across the San Luis Valley, the eastern mountains, the I-25 corridor, and the southeast plains. The highest risk will be along the New Mexico border, where several hours of 45 mph wind gusts are possible.

The NWS advises residents to avoid outdoor burning and any activities that could spark fires, as rapid fire spread is likely under these conditions. Strong winds and low humidity increase the risk of wildfires igniting and spreading uncontrollably.

Fire danger is expected to peak Thursday afternoon into the evening, with conditions easing overnight as winds weaken and humidity levels rise slightly. However, dry and breezy conditions may persist into Friday, maintaining an elevated fire risk for parts of the region.

Residents should monitor updates from local authorities and the National Weather Service for any changes or additional warnings.
