Pueblo, CO – Parts of southern Colorado, including Pueblo, Alamosa, and Trinidad, remain under a Red Flag Warning through 9 p.m. Friday as dangerous fire weather conditions threaten to intensify into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the warning covers Fire Weather Zones 222, 224, 228, 229, and 230, where strong southwest winds between 15 and 25 mph—with gusts up to 40 mph—combine with relative humidity levels as low as 8 percent. These conditions create a high risk of rapid fire ignition and erratic spread.

In addition to Friday’s alert, a Fire Weather Watch has been issued for Saturday afternoon through evening in areas including the San Luis Valley, Walsenburg, and Trinidad. This continued threat underscores ongoing concerns about dry fuels and persistent windy conditions.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, secure flammable materials, and report any signs of smoke immediately. Officials stress that any spark could quickly lead to uncontrolled fire activity under current conditions.

Fire officials recommend preparing emergency plans and reviewing evacuation routes as a precaution.
