Denver, CO – The National Weather Service in Denver/Boulder has issued a Red Flag Warning for much of the Front Range and eastern Colorado plains, in effect from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. MDT Monday, Oct. 20, due to strong winds and very low humidity.

According to the weather service, northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph and humidity as low as 15% will create critical fire weather conditions across multiple counties. The affected areas include Jefferson, Douglas, Elbert, Lincoln, Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, and Broomfield Counties, covering both the Denver metro area and the southern foothills.

Forecasters warn that these conditions could cause rapid fire growth and spread, particularly in dry grasslands and open spaces. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, grilling, or any activities that could produce sparks, such as using power tools or driving over dry grass.

The Red Flag Warning replaces a previous Fire Weather Watch issued earlier in the weekend. Officials encourage residents to monitor local alerts and report any signs of smoke immediately to authorities.
