Pueblo, CO – A sharp fall chill will grip southern Colorado early Sunday, with freezing temperatures expected across the San Luis Valley. The National Weather Service in Pueblo has issued a Freeze Warning from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday, warning of lows dipping into the mid to upper 20s. Light winds will accompany the cold, allowing temperatures to plummet quickly before sunrise.
According to the National Weather Service Pueblo office, the coldest readings will occur across the San Luis Valley, including Alamosa, Monte Vista, and Center, where subfreezing conditions may persist for several hours. Nearby mountain foothills and valleys could also see frost formation as skies clear overnight.
Officials urge residents to protect tender vegetation and outdoor plumbing, as prolonged freezing could damage unprotected pipes, crops, and gardens. Farmers and ranchers are advised to cover or harvest sensitive produce before temperatures fall late Saturday night.
The cold snap marks one of the first widespread freezes of the fall season for southern Colorado, signaling a seasonal shift toward colder mornings and longer nights. Drivers along U.S. 160 and U.S. 285 may also encounter icy spots in higher elevations before sunrise. Conditions will moderate by late Sunday as sunshine returns, though chilly mornings are expected to continue into early next week.
