El Moro, Colorado – A minor earthquake shook parts of southern Colorado Saturday afternoon, with a magnitude 2.5 tremor recorded just north of El Moro, near the New Mexico border.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake struck at 1:52 p.m. MDT about 7 kilometers north-northwest of El Moro, at a depth of 6.3 kilometers. Residents in Trinidad and Raton reported feeling light shaking, though no damage or injuries have been reported.

The epicenter was located in Las Animas County, an area not commonly associated with strong seismic activity but occasionally sees minor quakes. Community internet intensity data rated the shaking at level III, meaning it was weak but noticeable indoors.

Though small in magnitude, earthquakes in this region can still unsettle residents due to their rarity. No alerts or warnings were issued, but residents are encouraged to review earthquake safety procedures, especially in homes near fault zones or with older foundations.

More updates will be shared if additional seismic activity is detected in the region.
