Greeley, CO – Two Weld County Sheriff’s Office deputies were injured Monday afternoon after a firearm was accidentally discharged during training, according to officials.

The incident occurred at 3:17 p.m. at the Sam Brownlee Training Center in Carr, Colorado, where deputies were participating in scheduled firearms training. According to the sheriff’s office, the mishap happened as deputies were finishing the session and securing their equipment.

One deputy discharged their firearm, striking both themselves and another deputy. Authorities said both were transported to a local hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

“There is no danger to the public,” the Weld County Sheriff’s Office stated in a media release. The department confirmed the matter is under active internal investigation, and no additional details are expected to be released today.

The training center, located in rural northern Weld County, is routinely used for law enforcement firearms and tactical instruction.

This marks the second incident in recent months at Colorado law enforcement training facilities that has resulted in injuries, raising ongoing questions about safety procedures during exercises.
