Soft flakes drift through the Grand Valley this morning as winter settles briefly over western Colorado. Windshields frost over, car hoods sparkle with fresh snow, and the quiet hum of traffic slows across U.S. 6 and I-70. Though the snow is light, slick spots are forming fast in shaded areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, scattered snow showers will persist through early afternoon, ending around 3 p.m. MST. Accumulations of up to one inch are expected across lower elevations, with higher totals possible on nearby mesas. Visibility may briefly fall below two miles in heavier bands, and wet pavement could refreeze by evening as temperatures drop into the upper 20s.
Drivers should use caution on bridges, side streets, and rural highways where black ice may develop after sunset. The NWS warns that mountain passes will remain snowpacked and slick, especially along the I-70 corridor east of Rifle.
By Thursday, skies clear and sunshine returns with highs near 38°F. Friday continues mild and dry before a weak system clips the Four Corners Saturday, possibly bringing another light round of snow showers. Early December travel into the weekend looks favorable, though mornings will stay cold.
Plan extra time for your morning drive today, and watch for icy patches this evening.
