High winds and critically low humidity levels in Colorado on Tuesday will elevate wildfire risks across the southeastern Denver plains, particularly near Interstate 70 and Interstate 76. The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., citing southwest wind speeds between 30 to 45 mph. With humidity levels expected to drop as low as 16%, these conditions create a significant risk for fast-moving wildfires.

According to the National Weather Service in Denver/Boulder, the storm system approaching Colorado will bring gusts that could spark fires, especially in areas with dry vegetation. Residents in the affected regions, including those near Colorado Springs and Castle Rock, are strongly advised to avoid any outdoor activities that could ignite sparks, such as burning yard waste or using heavy machinery. This fire warning primarily targets the areas surrounding Denver, but extends across much of the southeastern plains.

After Tuesday’s critical conditions, cooler temperatures and potential rain and snow showers are expected midweek. Denver could see temperatures drop to 27 degrees by Wednesday night, with a 60% chance of precipitation. Although these showers may provide slight relief, significant fire threats could persist until moisture levels stabilize.

Looking ahead, the rest of the week promises clearer skies, with sunny conditions on Thursday and Friday and highs in the upper 50s. By the weekend, Colorado should experience slightly milder weather, giving residents a temporary reprieve from the high fire risk. However, with dry conditions prevailing, ongoing caution is recommended until more consistent moisture returns to the area.
