Denver, CO – Severe thunderstorms are expected to hit Denver and surrounding areas in Colorado this afternoon, bringing the risk of damaging winds and significant hail. Residents in the Front Range, including Denver, Boulder, and Colorado Springs, should prepare for storms that may produce hailstones up to 1.25 inches in diameter and winds reaching 65 mph.

According to the National Weather Service in Denver/Boulder, these storms could develop rapidly, with the main threats being damaging hail and wind gusts. The storms are anticipated to continue into the early evening, with localized heavy rainfall also possible. Although the flooding threat remains limited, there is an elevated risk of flash flooding in burn scar areas, particularly over the Alexander Mountain burn scar.

The National Weather Service advises residents to stay indoors during the storms and secure any outdoor objects that could be blown away by the strong winds. Motorists should be cautious of reduced visibility and potential hail damage.
