Grand Junction, CO – Bitterly cold temperatures are set to sweep across Colorado this weekend, bringing the coldest air of the season. The National Weather Service warns that highs will drop dramatically starting Saturday, with overnight lows nearing single digits and sub-zero wind chills in some areas.

According to the NWS, temperatures in Grand Junction will fall sharply, with a high of 42°F on Friday before dropping to 35°F Saturday. Lows will plummet to 11°F Saturday night, prompting residents to take precautions against frostbite and hypothermia. Drivers are also urged to prepare for potential icy conditions, especially on I-70 and mountainous routes.

Snow is forecasted to impact higher elevations, particularly the northern and central mountains and the Flat Tops, where travel could become hazardous. While Grand Junction itself is expected to remain mostly sunny, strong winds will create wind chills well below freezing.

Sunday will see a slight reprieve with highs near 33°F but lows dipping to 12°F overnight. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday will stay cold with a high of 28°F, and temperatures are not expected to climb significantly until midweek.

Residents should monitor forecasts and heed any advisories. Proper layering, bringing pets indoors, and ensuring home heating systems are in working order are critical steps to stay safe.
