Denver, CO — Avalanche warnings remain in effect this weekend for multiple Colorado mountain regions following ongoing snowfall and gusty winds. Residents and visitors are advised to stay alert as conditions are expected to stay hazardous through early next week.

According to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, weak snowpack and windy weather have created dangerous avalanche conditions in areas west of Denver, including popular backcountry zones near Vail and Summit County. Officials urge anyone planning to venture into these areas to check forecasts and avalanche reports before departing.

For those in Denver and surrounding urban areas, the weather will be relatively mild. Sunday will bring mostly sunny skies with highs near 62 degrees, followed by cooler temperatures into Monday, which will be breezy with a high of 50. Overnight lows will dip into the low 20s.

Backcountry recreationists are encouraged to carry proper safety equipment, such as beacons and shovels, and to avoid slopes over 30 degrees. “Conditions are highly unstable right now,” experts warned, emphasizing the increased risk of triggered slides.

Looking ahead, New Year’s Eve in Denver is forecast to be sunny with highs in the upper 40s, offering favorable conditions for outdoor celebrations. However, those traveling into the mountains should remain vigilant as avalanches are likely to persist into next week.
