Grand Junction, CO – A winter weather advisory has been issued for the mountainous regions of western Colorado and northeastern Utah, with significant snowfall and strong winds expected from early Monday through late Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, the advisory is in effect from 5 a.m. Monday to 11 a.m. MST Tuesday for areas above 8,500 feet, including the Northwest and Southwest San Juan Mountains, the Uncompahgre Plateau and Dallas Divide in Colorado, and the Eastern Uinta Mountains in Utah. Forecasters anticipate total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches, with localized heavier amounts possible. Winds could gust up to 45 mph, creating areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Travelers should prepare for icy and snow-covered roads, particularly on bridges and overpasses. The hazardous conditions may make travel difficult, especially on mountain passes such as Red Mountain Pass, Lizard Head Pass, and Douglas Pass in Colorado.

Authorities urge motorists to slow down, use caution, and check road conditions by dialing 511 before traveling. Those in affected areas should ensure they have emergency supplies in their vehicles, including blankets, food, and water, in case of delays.

The winter storm is expected to taper off by midday Tuesday, though lingering snow showers could persist at higher elevations.
