Grand Junction, CO – Residents of Mesa County are advised to take precautions as wildfire smoke continues to blanket the area through Saturday morning. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) has issued an air quality health advisory for smoke from the Turner Gulch Fire, with heavy smoke expected to impact areas near Gateway and potentially worsening in Grand Junction.

According to the CDPHE, the advisory will remain in effect from 9 a.m. Friday, July 25 until 9 a.m. Saturday, July 26. The smoke could cause reduced air quality in the region, with heavy smoke expected near the Turner Gulch Fire in southern Mesa County. In other parts of the county, including Grand Junction, moderate smoke impacts are anticipated, but additional smoke from other regional fires may further degrade air quality by Friday afternoon.

Health experts are urging vulnerable populations—such as individuals with heart disease or respiratory illnesses, young children, and the elderly—to limit outdoor activity. In areas with thick smoke, people should consider staying indoors and closing windows, especially if visibility drops below 5 miles. If you experience symptoms like coughing, throat irritation, or shortness of breath, consider relocating temporarily.

Residents should continue to monitor local air quality updates and adjust plans accordingly. The advisory may be extended if conditions worsen.
