College Station, TX – Residents across Southeast Texas, including College Station, should brace for near-record heat through Sunday, with temperatures soaring into the upper 90s and heat indices peaking between 103°F and 107°F.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, the area is experiencing an unseasonable heat surge that will persist through June 8. College Station is forecast to hit highs of 97°F this weekend, while surrounding cities such as Katy, Conroe, and Columbus could see similar maximums. The elevated Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) is categorized as “High” (Level 4 of 5), and the Peak Heat Risk has been designated “Major” (Level 3 of 4), signifying serious danger for heat-related illness.

The heat will be slightly less intense along the coast, with Galveston expected to remain in the upper 80s. Nonetheless, health officials urge everyone to avoid strenuous activity between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., use air conditioning if available, and stay hydrated.

Experts recommend checking on vulnerable neighbors and avoiding extended time outdoors. This pattern is notably hotter than typical early June conditions for the region and could impact travel, outdoor events, and public safety if precautions are not taken.
