Glen Ellyn, Ill. — The College of DuPage (COD) sent students to the NASA Lunabotics Challenge, hosted at the Florida Space Institute’s Exolith Lab at the University of Central Florida. The challenge was from May 15 to May 18.

On June 16, COD shared that their team — which was the only community college represented out of 34 teams — had won several awards and honorable mentions.

COD won third place in Systems Engineering Paper and earned an honorable mention in Robot Autonomy. The team achieved fourth place in Berm Construction, which earned them a spot at the Kennedy Space Center. Finally, Dr. Eric Meloche from COD received the 2025 NASA Artemis Educator Award. The award honors educators, faculty or mentors for their time and dedication to help students. Final results from the competition will be announced in August.

The NASA Lunabotics Challenge is a competition for university teams across the country to develop and deploy robots. These robots should be able to utilize lunar regolith in a simulated lunar environment. It was created by NASA in support of the ARTEMIS program. The top ten scoring teams are invited to the Kennedy Space Center at Merritt Island, Florida to compete at the Artemis Arena.
