Shreveport, LA – The National Weather Service in Shreveport says the first major surge of Arctic air this season is poised to sweep southward into the ArkLaTex region late this weekend, bringing the coldest temperatures of the season by Sunday night into Monday morning.

Forecasters say temperatures are expected to drop into the upper teens and 20s, marking a sharp shift from this week’s mild weather. This surge of cold air will move south from Canada across the central and eastern United States beginning Saturday, with freezing temperatures reaching Louisiana and East Texas by early Monday.

The NWS urges residents to prepare now by winterizing homes, protecting pipes, and making plans to safeguard pets, plants, and livestock. While forecasters are still refining details such as how long temperatures will stay below freezing, the potential for a hard freeze appears increasingly likely.

Meanwhile, lows tonight will already dip near freezing across some northern areas, before highs rebound into the upper 50s to mid-60s Thursday, offering a brief warm-up ahead of the Arctic front.
