Birmingham, AL – After a stretch of mild fall weather, central and northern Alabama will experience a sharp temperature drop early next week, with widespread freezing conditions expected both Monday and Tuesday mornings, according to the National Weather Service in Birmingham.
Forecasters say temperatures will fall below 32°F for most of the region, with lows between 20°F and 25°F possible in areas such as Hamilton, Jasper, Gadsden, and Anniston. The coldest readings are forecast for Tuesday morning, when nearly all of central Alabama is expected to experience a hard freeze.
The NWS warns that sensitive vegetation and unprotected outdoor pipes could be damaged, urging residents to cover plants, bring pets indoors, and wrap exposed plumbing. Monday morning’s freeze will affect primarily northern counties, expanding statewide by early Tuesday.
Cities including Birmingham (29°F Monday, 25°F Tuesday), Tuscaloosa (31°F Monday, 26°F Tuesday), and Montgomery (32°F Monday, 27°F Tuesday) are expected to see their coldest temperatures since last winter.
Forecasters advise using the remainder of the weekend to prepare for the cold spell before temperatures tumble after sunset Sunday.
