Houston, TX – A Freeze Watch is in place for parts of Southeast Texas, including areas along the I-45 corridor, starting tonight. Temperatures are expected to dip as low as 28 degrees early Wednesday morning, marking the season’s first widespread freeze.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Houston/Galveston office, the Freeze Watch is effective from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. Wednesday. The advisory urges residents to protect outdoor vegetation and insulate exposed pipes to prevent damage. Sensitive plants should be covered or brought indoors, and lawn sprinklers turned off to avoid icy patches on sidewalks and driveways.
Cold air will spread across the region tonight, with overnight lows falling to 28-32 degrees in northern counties, including Grimes and Walker, while Houston and coastal areas may see lows in the mid-to-upper 30s. Breezy conditions will add to the chill, making it feel even colder during the early hours of Wednesday.
The freeze risk diminishes later Wednesday as sunny skies return, with afternoon highs reaching around 60 degrees. However, cooler-than-normal nights will persist throughout the week, with lows hovering near 40 degrees Wednesday and Thursday nights. Rain chances return by Friday evening, bringing milder temperatures in the 60s.
Drivers should exercise caution during the morning commute as frost may form on untreated roads, especially in northern areas. Keep an eye on local forecasts and prepare for potential weather-related delays.
Be sure to act now to protect plants, pets, and property as the freeze approaches.
