Memphis, TN – A cold weather advisory is in effect for North Mississippi and West Tennessee, with wind chills dropping to 0 degrees overnight Sunday.
The National Weather Service issued the advisory from midnight Sunday through noon Monday. Residents should expect wind chills ranging from 0 to 10 degrees, which can increase the risk of hypothermia and frostbite with prolonged outdoor exposure.
According to the NWS, areas affected include major cities such as Tupelo, Jackson, and Oxford in Mississippi, and Dyersburg, Jackson, and Paris in Tennessee. The cold weather will be most severe during the early morning hours Monday.
Officials recommend wearing layers, hats, and gloves when outside. Portable heaters and generators should be used with caution to avoid fire risks and carbon monoxide poisoning. Pet owners are urged to bring animals indoors to protect them from the frigid temperatures.
Check on vulnerable neighbors, particularly the elderly or those with limited heating options, to ensure their safety.
