Springfield, IL – Cold temperatures will persist across Illinois through the workweek, but relief is on the way as a gradual warm-up begins.
According to the National Weather Service Central Illinois, wind chills will drop as low as -20°F tonight, with scattered flurries possible east of I-55. Overnight lows will range from -4°F to 5°F.
By Thursday, daytime highs will reach 16-20°F, still with wind chills dipping below zero in the morning. Warmer temperatures will follow, with highs climbing into the 30s by Saturday and the mid-40s by Sunday. Winds will shift from the northwest to the southwest, bringing milder conditions into early next week.
Residents should prepare for dangerously cold wind chills tonight and take precautions if traveling. Warmer temperatures over the weekend will bring some relief, but lingering cold mornings could still pose a risk.
