Tallahassee, FL – A Frost Advisory has been issued for Florida’s Big Bend region, with temperatures expected to drop to the mid-30s early Saturday morning. The advisory, in effect from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. EDT Saturday, warns of potential frost formation that could damage sensitive outdoor vegetation.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Tallahassee, the affected areas include inland portions of Dixie, Taylor, and Lafayette counties. Residents in these regions should take precautions to protect plants, pets, and outdoor pipes from the cold.
The NWS reports that temperatures could fall as low as 34 degrees Fahrenheit, creating conditions for frost development. While frost is uncommon in Florida’s Big Bend this late in the season, similar cold snaps have occurred in previous years.
Frost may harm crops and delicate plants, especially if left uncovered. Gardeners and farmers are advised to use frost cloths or bring potted plants indoors. Pet owners should ensure their animals have adequate shelter from the cold.
Elsewhere in the region, temperatures will remain in the upper 30s to lower 40s, with little to no precipitation expected. The advisory will expire by mid-morning as temperatures begin to rise.
Residents should stay updated with the latest forecasts and take necessary precautions to prevent damage to vegetation and outdoor belongings.
