Goodland, KS – Farmers and residents across northwest Kansas and southwest Nebraska should prepare for a cold night as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Goodland issues a Frost Advisory from 9 p.m. MDT (10 p.m. CDT) Monday through 10 a.m. MDT (11 a.m. CDT) Tuesday.

The advisory includes Cheyenne, Rawlins, Sherman, Thomas, Wallace, Logan, Greeley, and Wichita Counties in Kansas, along with Dundy and Hitchcock Counties in Nebraska.

According to the NWS, overnight lows around 33°F will likely lead to widespread frost formation, especially in low-lying areas where winds may calm near sunrise. If that happens, temperatures could briefly dip below freezing, increasing the risk of damage to unprotected crops and garden plants.

Residents are urged to cover tender vegetation and move potted plants indoors to prevent frost damage. The NWS also recommends checking outdoor plumbing and irrigation systems to avoid freezing-related issues.

The cold snap follows a weekend cold front that brought windy and dry conditions to the High Plains. Temperatures are expected to rebound slightly by midweek before another round of cool, seasonal air arrives later in the week.
