Flagstaff, AZ – Northern Arizona residents should prepare for a sharp temperature drop this weekend as cooler air sweeps in behind a passing low-pressure system. The National Weather Service in Flagstaff reports gusty winds today, followed by the coldest mornings of the season on Sunday and Monday.
According to the NWS, wind gusts between 35–45 mph are expected across parts of Navajo and Apache counties through 3 p.m. MST Saturday, especially in the White Mountains and Little Colorado River Valley. Once the winds subside, much colder air will move in overnight.
Temperatures are forecast to dip near or below freezing in several high-elevation areas, including Flagstaff, Bellemont, Tusayan, and Window Rock. Some spots could see lows around 32°F early Sunday morning. Residents are advised to cover sensitive plants, bring outdoor vegetation inside, and disconnect garden hoses to prevent damage.
The NWS notes this will likely be the coldest stretch so far this fall, signaling a shift toward more typical early-October weather in the region’s high country.
